SARAH: ‘I WANT TO SHOW PEOPLE THE REAL ME’

Her long-awaited memoir is on its way

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

‘I’m so excited for it to come out’

She spent 11 years as one fifth of the UK’S biggestever girl groups, so she undoubtedly has a few stories to tell – making her upcoming biography one of the most highly anticipated books of the year. And, last week, Sarah Harding reassured fans that they wouldn’t have to wait much longer, after announcing that the book, Hear Me Out – which is sure to contain lots of memories from her Girls Aloud days – is due to be published mid-march.

It’s certainly an incredible feat for the singer, who shocked fans and showbiz friends alike in August , when she revealed the devastating news that she’s battling advanced breast cancer. Sarah stressed at the time that she was “fighting as hard as I possibly can”, and last week, she gave some insight into the process, telling fans that their “love and support” had helped her “on bad days”, and that somehow “in between treatments and hospital visits”, she’d managed to complete her memoir. “I can’t believe I’ve actually gone and done it, and it’s now at the printers!” she said. “I’m so excited for it to come out.”

She continued, “I want to show people the real me. Or perhaps remind them. Because somewhere – among the nightclubs, the frocks and hairdos, the big chart hits and the glamour of being a pop star – the other Sarah Harding got utterly lost. She’s the one who’s been forgotten. All I want is for you to hear her out.”

Over the years, the 39 year old has had a famously fraught relationship with three of her former bandmates – Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts. Thankfully, the five-piece (including Nadine Coyle) have made peace in recent times, and all the girls have publicly supported Sarah in her health battle. But no doubt there’s still a hint of nerves at what stories might be unearthed – as evidenced when Cheryl responded to Sarah’s initial announcement that she was writing a tell-all book, saying, “Well, this is going to be an interesting read,” alongside a jokey side-eye emoji. ■
