Victoria Beckham is hellbent on making son Cruz a star

But her youngest son doesn’t want her help

‘He’s determined he will make it on his own’

Turning 16 is always a big deal in a teenager’s life, and when Cruz Beckham reached that milestone last week, his superstar parents David and Victoria had big plans for him. As well as making sure their youngest son marked his special day in style with a cake and celebrations in Miami – where the family are currently living – the couple, especially former Spice Girl Victoria, feel now is the right time for Cruz to start working on his music again and become a star.

“Victoria knows Cruz has what it takes it to be a pop star and is hell-bent on making it happen,” our insider explains. “She feels she can use her experience of being in the Spice Girls and prepare him to be even bigger than that. While they’re staying in America, she wants to use family connections, like Cruz’s godfather Marc Anthony, to help out, and she has said she would be willing to stay in the States if that’s what it takes for Cruz to be a success.”

However, there seems to be one person who isn’t keen for

Posh to become his momager, and that’s Cruz himself. He first released a single in 2016, when he was 11, called If Every Day Was Christmas, and while he enjoyed that success, it made him realise what he did and didn’t want. We are told he’s been working hard on making his own contacts through social media and doesn’t want to be seen as a “celebrity stage child”.

“He’s made it very clear that he’s making his own path in life,” says our source. “Cruz has always been the toughest of the Beckham kids. He’s the one who’s street smart and has learnt his lessons from watching his

older brothers, as well as his own experience of ‘fame’. Back then, he was hailed as the new Justin Bieber, but it gained him more of a backlash than anything. He learned a lesson – if he wanted anything other than attracting fan girls, including to be taken seriously in the music industry, he needed to make it on his own and not let his well-meaning mum jinx it. He knows his mum has a lot of ‘music biz’ experience, and she is desperate to help, but things work completely differently now in the music industry than they did in her heyday.”

Cruz – who has brothers Brooklyn, 21, and Romeo, 18, and nine-year-old sister Harper – recently told his Instagram followers that his dream is “to make music everybody loves and for music to last forever”. And it seems he is working on that by getting help from the likes of Justin Bieber, not his mum.

“He’s going to make his own way, and doesn’t want his mum pushing him forward,” our source adds. “Cruz is in regular contact with Justin after he reached out to him a few years back, to warn him off getting into music too young and to figure out what he wanted.

Cruz listened and has now got a lot of contacts in the industry. He is so dedicated and writes a lot of music – it’s his obsession, and he listens to new stuff all day. He’s determined he will make it on his own.” ■
