‘Their careers have followed a similar path’
She’s been a sweetheart ever since she graced our screens in 8 Simple Rules almost 20 years ago, but after years of TV success, Kaley Cuoco’s role as America’s official sweetheart is very much taking shape. And we’re told she’s got a very special mentor steering her in the right direction.
“Kaley was thrilled to land a big-time award nomination for The Flight Attendant after spending years asking her role model Jennifer Aniston for advice,” a source tells heat.
Two weeks ago, standing outside her LA mansion in an Oscar de la Renta gown, the 35-yearold actress looked like an actual, very cool, princess. And after heartbreak at the Golden Globes – she and her show The Flight Attendant, which she co-produced and starred in, missed out on winning two awards – Kaley showed us her goofy side, posting a “losing” Instagram picture. Sitting on the floor, heels discarded, pizza and Champagne in hand, Kaley captioned the shot, “I would like to thank... never mind!”
The Flight Attendant (Sky One from 19 March) marks the first big project Kaley has worked on since The Big Bang Theory – the sitcom that helped cement her as a household name. And while some actresses might be bitter about the spotlight shining on someone else, 52-year-old Jen is happy to share the love. “Both Kaley and Jen have been aware for about 11 years or so that their careers were following a similar path, and it’s not been an issue for Jen,” we’re told. “She sees Kaley as an absolutely worthy successor to the ‘America’s Sweetheart’ image she had for Friends. Jen and the rest of the cast don’t begrudge the success of The Big Bang Theory at all.”
The Friends cast famously negotiated $1million per episode for each cast member in 2002, and The Big Bang Theory cast managed to do the same for the last four seasons of the show, also securing a percentage of the show’s profits – even after it stopped airing. We wonder where they might have got the inspiration to push for those whopping salaries?
“Jen has had the chance to give advice to Kaley, Johnny Galecki and the rest of the cast over the years,” our insider reveals. “They’ve got nothing but love for those guys and behind the scenes, there are a lot of agents, managers, writers and crew members who have friendships with both casts.” n
