J-LO wants to save face
‘He’s been hitting her up for a while now’
As we told you a couple of weeks ago, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are hanging out again, with the Justice League actor spotted several times at J-lo’s LA mansion. However, an insider tells us that their reunion isn’t quite as romantic as we’d like it to be. “There’s still an attraction there – much more from Ben’s perspective than Jen’s if she were being honest – but this whole thing is much more to do with PR and saving face,” our source shares.
Ben, 48, and 51-year-old Jen – or Bennifer, if you like – were together for just 18 months, including an engagement, and broke up in 2004. And after J-lo’s recent split from fiancé number four, Alex Rodriguez, amid rumours he had cheated – which he denies – we’re told she wants to get back control of her image, and Ben is all too happy to help.
“Jen has always been obsessed with how she comes across to fans and in the media,” our source reveals. “She hates feeling like people are laughing at her or like she’s being painted as a victim, which is why Alex effectively signed their relationship’s death warrant by flirting with someone else and causing her so much embarrassment.”
They add, “People have tried telling her she needs a low profile, less famous type of guy this time around, but she’s adamant that the world needs to see she’s still capable of another high-profile type of romance. Ben checks all the boxes, especially as he’s been hitting her up for a while now and openly flirting with her. They’re hanging out at their houses and having fun together, but there is also a plan about how all of this is going to be handled, and it’s not just them involved – it feels a bit like a dating contract.”
We’re told that Ben – who was recently revealed to be back on celebrity dating app Raya – isn’t complaining for now, as he’s delighted to be back in his ex’s life. Although our source does say, “The big question is, how long will this happy arrangement last for?” ■
