Grab the tissues and see if you can cancel the wedding gift from John Lewis, Chris Taylor and Maura Higgins have split up. The couple – who met on Love Island in 2019, but only got together last year – both posted statements about their break-up last week.
Maura, 30, wrote, “It breaks my heart to even type this. But I wanted to let everyone know that myself and Chris have made the joint decision to end our relationship. There is no wrongdoing on either side. We still love, care and respect each other deeply. From the minute we met each other, we’ve been very close friends and that will never change. There is no regret, life is about taking chances. We wanted to make this work, but we have realised that we work better being friends.”
Chris, also 30, echoed his ex-girlfriend’s words, telling fans that although they were going through a “tough time”, they would, “Remain friends, as we have been since day one, and I will always be in Maura’s corner and have her back.”
Both Maura and Chris left Love Island coupled up with other contestants – Chris with Harley Brash, although their questionable relationship didn’t last long. Maura was with Curtis Pritchard, who later labelled her a “backstabber” and questioned whether there was an overlap with Chris, which she denied.
Chris told fans back in November that he had, “fallen in love with my best mate”, and in January 2021, Maura even admitted she wanted to marry him. Sob. ■
