A HELENSBURGH choir raised hundreds of pounds for the local lifeboat crew at a special concert in Glasgow.

The Helensburgh Oratorio Choir’s 60th anniversary show which was held in Glasgow’s City Halls on Sunday, February 18 - raised £700 for the RNLI in Helensburgh.

Choir chair Alicia Tindal presented the cheque to local RNLI representative Penny French before the group’s rehearsal last week.

Alicia said: “Our choir is so pleased to be able to make this donation to our local lifeboat, particularly as our concert this year was about ships and the sea, and it’s the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.”

The choir’s members are already practising for their next concert, an evening of ‘Choral Favourites’, will be held on Saturday, May 11 in Helensburgh Parish Church.

The event will be free, with the group hosting a collection for charity.

Alicia is keen to have new members join the choir and is encouraging anyone interested to reach out.

She added: “We’ve had a fantastic golden jubilee year and are now looking forward to our next performance.

“We are always looking for new members and the next concert has some great music, so please do get in touch.”

The Helensburgh Oratorio Choir was formed in 1963 and has

performed a wide range of classical choral music over the years.

The group has a professional musical director, Susannah Wapshott, and rehearses each week in the Helensburgh Parish Church.

Meanwhile, the choir has announced that it has rescheduled its forthcoming ‘Come and Sing’

concert due to a clash with other events in town.

The ‘Operatorio’ event was originally scheduled to take place on April 20, but will now be held on Saturday, September 14.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the choir and joining should email www. helensburghoratorio.co.uk.
