Rhu beach clean

-

Church begins with the monthly Men’s Den on Friday, April 12.

The group usually meets on the third Friday of each month, but this month it’s moving to the second Friday. Meetings are held at the church hall from 2-3.30pm and all men will receive a warm welcome as well as tea and coffee. For more information contact Charlie on 0755 445 0231.

Other events in the church diary this month include a food bank collection in the church yard on Saturday, April 13 from 10-11am, a ladies’ nearly new clothes sale on Saturday, April 20 from 10am to 12.30pm (including teas, coffees and home baking), and a fund-raising ceilidh in aid of the church tower fund, being held at Rhu Community Centre on Saturday, April 20 from 7.30pm.

Tickets for the ceilidh cost £15 (children free).

The weekly Knit and Natter group meets in the church hall every Tuesday from 2-4pm, and the Rhukulele group meets every Thursday at 3.30pm.

The final one-off event in the diary this month is a ground clearance session on Saturday, April 27 from 10am until 12 noon.

As well as the ongoing battle against the ivy, the church’s clean-up group is trying to save the cherry trees on the green and hopes to edge the grass and hoe the gravel.

There will be tea and coffee and maybe home baking to keep everyone going.

Volunteers are being sought for the next community beach clean in Rhu, which will be held on Saturday, April 13.

All those who would like to lend a hand cleaning up the shoreline in the village are asked to meet at the toilet block and bus stop opposite Rhu Ellen Court.

The clean-up runs from 10am until 11.30am and all volunteers are welcome to join in for all or part of the 90 minutes.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “It would be great to see you for the April clean; let’s make our environment the best for wildlife and us!”

Equipment will be provided. For more information email Lynda Baylem on Lyndab13579@gmail.com.
