IT’S been another busy sporting week around Helensburg­h and Lomond - here’s our roundup of what’s been happening and what’s to come in the next few days...

Rugby: A penalty kick in the dying moments earned Lomond and Helensburg­h’s first XV a dramatic 25-24 league win over Uddingston at Ardencaple on Saturday, despite the losts losing the try count 4-3 to their Lanarkshir­e visitors.

L&H’s second XV lost out in a friendly match away to Garnock on the same day, while on Sunday the Lomond and Helensburg­h U14 squad beat Kilmarnock 57-26 at home.

This weekend’s rugby action begins on Saturday, April 20, when the L&H first XV travel to Cambuslang in West Division 2, with a 2pm kick-off at Coats Par. The club’s youth squads are in action too, with the L&H U13s scheduled to take part in the Dalziel U13 Festival on Saturday and the U14s and U15s both in action on Sunday – the former at home to Oban in a friendly, the latter in the Linlithgow Sevens.

Football: After a free week, Rhu Amateurs’ over-35s are back in Football Central League action on Friday, April 19, when they travel to Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School in Dumbarton to take on The Sons FC. Kick-off is at 7pm.

The club’s newly-formed under-19 squad started their preparatio­ns for the 2024-25 season with a training session on Monday night attended by 33 players. Hockey: Helensburg­h Hockey Club’s first XI held Uddingston 3 to a 1-1 draw away from home on Saturday, with experience­d striker Barry Cox pulling the visitors level after stealing the ball from an Uddingston defender. The teams meet again at Hermitage Academy this Saturday, April 20, with Helensburg­h knowing a point will be enough to keep them in the First Division for next season.

Meanwhile, the the Helensburg­h second XI lost 4-0 at home to Second Division champions Kelburne, with goalkeeper Craig Keith having a fine match despite the scoreline and making several good saves.
