Funding drive launched to take gold medal winner Jaimee to World Transplant Games

-

A TEENAGE athlete from Torbay has been called up to compete in the prestigious World Transplant Games.

Jaimee Luscombe, who is 14 years old and goes to Churston Ferrers Grammar School, is the only child in Torbay to have had a kidney transplant.

Now she has the chance to show off her sporting talents on the big stage.

Jaimee unexpectedly went into renal failure in August 2011 when she was just seven years old.

After two and half years on dialysis she received her kidney transplant in April 2013.

Since 2014 she has competed in four British Transplant Games and won a total of 11 medals including three golds in cycling, three silvers and five bronzes.

At the British Transplant Games in Birmingham last month she won a gold in the 3km cycling time trial and a silver in long jump.

Now she has received a letter telling her she has been selected to represent Team GB in the World Transplant Games in Gateshead next August in cycling and long jump.

Now her mum Helen has launched a fundraising campaign to raise the money she needs to go and take part.

She said: “To be able to send her to compete in this once in a lifetime opportunity we need to raise £1,000.

“We’ll be doing what we can to raise funds.”
