HE Organic campaigner plans pub to make community proud
ONE of the best-known pubs in Totnes has been taken over by a decorated organic campaigner. The Bull Inn in the High Street, which got its name when it opened in the 19th Century as a popular market day meeting place for farmers, has been bought by Geetie Singh-Watson MBE, a leading West Country organic entrepreneur who founded an award-winning London pub.
The businesswoman, who has been awarded an MBE for her services to the organic pub trade and founded the Duke of Cambridge Organic Pub in London 20 years ago, said she plans to transform the old inn on Totnes High Street using local tradespeople and suppliers.
She said: “I am passionate about pubs.
“They are a piece of history on our street corners.

“I have wanted a venue in Totnes for many years and I have always thought the Bull Inn would provide just the space I need.
“Whilst I will need to undertake con- siderable work to get the building back on its feet, I plan to do this using local tradespeople and create a business that the community can be proud off.”
The Bull Inn has been closed since November 2017.
On sale with international property consultant JLL’s Exeter office, there was considerable interest in the premises during the tender.
JLL director Michael Easton said: “We are delighted to see the venue going to a buyer who has such an exciting track record and a business plan that is intrinsic to the sustainable and organic ethos that has made Totnes famous.
“This is a great example of old premises being brought back to life in a market showing promising signs of improvement.”
The inn will be the fourth pub for Ms Singh-Watson, who is married to the founder of Totnes-based Riverford Organic Farms, Guy Singh-Watson.
A summer 2019 opening is planned.
