£350m NHS ‘promise’ key to Leave win

-

WHILE I like a good debate and appreciate that others may hold views contrary to my own, I feel obliged to write in regarding some of the opinions shared in recent weeks about the Brexit debate.

Dennis Faulkener suggests Leave voters were not in any way swayed in the referendum by some of the many unsubstantiated claims touted by the Leave campaign.

He then, slightly contradictorily, goes on to say it was only the Remain camp which managed to use scare tactics to win over voters.

Why would both sides spend tens of millions of pounds on their internet campaigns if not to sway the many millions of undecided voters?

I accept that both sides told many untruths but it is my humble opinion that Boris Johnson’s £350 million NHS claim (something very dear to all our hearts) played a vital part in the final result and if that untruth had been called out then the result would have swung the other way.

Mr Faulkener suggests that if a new referendum was to take place then the winning margin for Leave would increase.

Personally, I think he is wrong, but if he is so convinced then why not let the electorate (who now have a greater understanding of what Brexit actually entails) have a final say?

Oh sorry, how silly of me to suggest that in this supposed democracy where we let the will of the people be subverted by the will of the people. sums such as the extra £98 million.

Abandon the foreign aid programme – we cannot afford it.

The Brixham scallop boats are asking for help from the navy – will they get it?

I doubt it as we have a shortage of ships. What has happened to our once great country?
