TORQUAY’S newest blues club will open its doors on Friday, September 21, featuring the highly respected blues guitarist Dogleg Steve.

After that the club will operate on one Friday each month at the Riviera Hotel in Belgrave Road.

Although classically trained at the London College of Music and having recorded and arranged sessions with the likes of Gladys Knight and John Denver, Steve’s passion has al- ways been the blues.

He says the club is the culmination of an idea he has been carrying around for many years, waiting for the right venue to become available.

Each month there will be top players giving the audience the very best of the blues.

Booked to play on November 9 is Catfish Keith from the USA.

Steve added: “There will be opportunities for good players and singers to show what they can do and as long as they are good they will always be welcome.

“Blues music is all about ‘feel’ and spontaneity so there are sure to be some unexpected surprises along the way.”

Paignton based singer/songwriter Barry Palmer will sing on the opening night.

He is best known for being the lead singer for Mike Oldfield on the album Discover and the hit single Crime of Passion.
