Brixham are in good shape for the Devon derby clash with Barnstaple at Astley Park on Saturday after a 40-13 win on the road at Old Patesians.

The Fishermen had cruised home 44-13 seven days earlier visiting Newton Abbot and will be going for three in a row against Barum.

Pats were hard to break down and led until a couple of minutes before the interval.

Brixham did not hit the front until the 35th minute, Connor Bedwell’s first try doing the business, but once ahead there they stayed. Martin Worthington, the Brixham coach, said the team were largely paying attention to the game plan and getting their rewards.

“We were looking to build on the Newton performance by backing it up and stuck with the same team to show faith,” said Worthington.

“It took us 20 minutes the get going and in that time we did some good and bad stuff.

“The players showed great character to come out after half time and take control of the game.

“We started doing set plays on our terms, scored some well-executed tries and had the score board on our side.

“Our last 10 minutes to see the game out were really good.”

Bedwell and Harrison Culley scored two tries each as Brix- ham condemned Pats to a third straight defeat.

Sam Thomas and Joe Lovell scored second-half tries as the lead widened. Mitch Pinkus was in impressive form with the boot, landing five conversions from six attempts, two of them from the touchline.

Back at Astley Park the Crusaders second XV were defeating Torquay Athletic Extras 59-0.
