ThepopularThompson- designed locomotive isexpectedtorunin its newguise onseveral excursions to East AngliaonceCovid- 19restrictionsare eased sufficiently to allowSteamDreams tooperate.
As outlinedinDavid’s‘ FacetoFace’ interview in issue265, hewasborn and broughtupinIpswich andwasaregular trainspotter at the town’s station. His passion for IpswichTownfootball club also remains aspowerful asever.
“Therewasaclassof locomotives namedafter football clubs– the LNER’s B17s, andtheyweren’t very different fromMayflower,” saidDavid.
“Therewasn’t an IpswichTown because itwasn’t a leagueclubin the 1930s ( therewasaNorwichCity) butIhadanameplatemadeformy owncollection.
“I’m nowgettinganothermade and I’mgoingtoput themonMayflower fora time. I’m only planningonthe renaming it as B2No. 61674 foravery limited number of runs. I certainly hope to bring it through EastAnglia with those on!”
