Why the newCorris locomotive will not be named
by Kerr Stuart Ltd in Stoke- on- Trent in 1921 and plans areafoot to mark its centenary with special eventsonthe CorrisandTalyllyn railwaysnext year ( as reported last issue). TheFalconwill be No. 10 inthe Corris locomotive listings.
Hopefully, during the centenary Mr Thomas will be remembered. He is believed to have turnedablind eyeto instructions to send the tworemaining locosaway fromstorage atMachynlleth to be scrapped, hoping that they might have a futureontheTR, which did express an interest in acquiring at least one of thembefore the‘ preservationera’.
Their eventual purchase and subsequenthistory iswell knownfrom TomRolt’s bookRailwayAdventure and told in detail inMartinFuller’s three- part historyofCorrisandTalyllyn steam locomotives.
Therevived CorrisRailway does use diesel and battery- electric locomotives, but in thecase of its steamlocomotives androlling stock, it looks tore- create as far as possible the appearanceand atmosphereof the original line.
