NYMR resumes Whitby operations

-

AFTER relaunching public postlockdown services with two short shuttles, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is again running steam the full length of its route from Pickering to Whitby.

The'Optimist'began running on August 17 and departs Pickering twice a day, at 9am and noon, both allowing passengers time to spend at the seaside ( returning at 2pm and 4.30pm respectively). The trains, all steam- hauled, do not stop at any intermediate stations.

Tickets must be pre- booked, fares ranging from £ 35 to £ 72 ( two adults plus two children) and £ 140 ( table with four adults), with reduced rates for members.

Passengers can book either a private compartment ( maximum six people) or travel in a standard TSO carriage ( maximum four) with social distancing measures in place. Tickets will be released in two- week blocks, as officials closely monitor the situation, and at the time of going to press, the ' Optimist' is planned to run until September 13.
