Have your say on crime in borough

What worries you most about crime?

A CRIME survey has been launched in Hinckley and Blaby to measure how safe people feel in their area.

The Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is asking residents for their views on crime and preventative techniques.

The partnership, between Hinckley and Bosworth and Blaby District councils, say it has helped to reduce crime over the last year through various campaigns and services.

Campaigns included visiting schools to highlight issues related to drugs and alcohol, antisocial behaviour and cyber crime.

Other measures included tackling seasonal crimes and promoting services for the most vulnerable residents and victims.

Councillor Chris Booth- by, chair of the CSP for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said: “Reductions in overall crime and anti-social behaviour in Hinckley and Bosworth in the current climate is great news and we will continue to work hard to continue this downward trend, protect vulnerable people and support victims in the borough.

“These surveys help us to understand what the concerns are for local people so we can ensure we are working in areas that are most important to the people who live and work in the area.”

He said the domestic abuse outreach service has been particularly successful with more than more than 350 requests from victims in the two areas.

Councillor Lee Breckon, chair of the CSP for Blaby District Council, added: “We are very pleased with the response from our residents to last year’s survey, and learning that more than 80% of people said they felt safe in the District of Blaby is excellent news.

“I’m also delighted to report that there have been reductions in domestic burglary, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour, especially as we know these are key areas of concern for the public.”

Paper copies will be available at council offices, libraries and other community venues.
