AMATEUR artists are being invited to submit pieces inspired by Hinckley’s Hollycroft Park for the chance to have their work displayed in a town gallery.

People can put forward paintings, pictures, photographs, sculpture, embroidery or any other kind of artwork for consideration, with winners and runners up in two age groups to have their pieces exhibited in the Atkins September.

They will form part of a two-week display, opening on September 24, celebrating the park, with exhibits on its history, community and music events which are held there and memories of people who have been linked with it through the years.

The exhibition is being collated by the Friends of Hollycroft Park, the voluntary group which has been gallery in encouraging community use of the public green space for the past 16 years.

It will feature a display of photographs of the park by Paul Hands of Hinckley Photographed, who is running the open art competition.

Mrs Parker said: “The friends of Hollycroft Park want to show how an award winning Green Flag Park has grown and developed over 80 years and touched the lives of the community of Hinckley through a display of the park’s history, recent and past events organised by the friends, pictures showing the beauty of the park taken by the group and local photographers and a display depicting the various music events put on in the park.

“People will be able to find out more about their local park and the work of this voluntary group.”

An opening event on Saturday September 24 at 6.30pm will include short talks by Hinckley historian Greg Drozdz, Friends chairman Dawn Jeffrey and secretary Sue Neal, with music from students of the borough’s Music School.

Art competition entries will be judged in under-16 and adult categories.

Work can be sent to Hinckley Photographed or taken along to Mr Hands who will be in the pavilion in Hollycoft Park during the Friends’ Sunday Funday event on August 7.

Paul Hands can be contacted at paul@hinckleyphotographed.co.uk or by calling 07854 956970.
