Music is back in the yard for garden party this summer

-

A SIMPLE garden party which has evolved into a statement summer festival is gearing up for its 13th year in the ‘yard’.

Music in the Yard was born in the late 90s through the Newton family thanks to their love of the landscape around them and appreciation of live entertainment.

Called ‘summer, drum and fun’ the first events were small and un-elabo- rate but each year the number of people interested in attending grew, the number of musicians wanting to take part expanded and by 2003 the Newtowns decided to take the burgeoning ‘festival’ over into Cotesbach stable yard.

Soon recognised as a known attraction Music in the Yard has gone from a handful of folk to an all day attraction drawing in hundreds of revellers.

This year it takes place on Saturday July 9 with gates open at 11am and music starting at noon and lasting all the way until midnight.

Acts are eclectic performing everything from hip-hop to blues and folk, all perfectly delivered in the charming rustic surroundings.

For the first time this year dogs are being allowed into the space - on the proviso they are kept on a lead and don’t leave any ‘presents’ behind.

A full bar is offered as well as food stalls and crafts and workshops including tye dying and pottery. There will be a ‘healing’ zone and storytelling as well as demonstrations of circus skills which will culminate in a special afterdark show.

Now run by the Newton’s daughter, Livvy, the event costs £12 in advance and £15 on the door. Camping is avail-
