MATCH organiser Barry Bennett enjoyed a successful week finishing second in Wednesday’s Brookfield open and then winning Sunday’s open match.

Spawning fish made sport difficult in the Wednesday event with Fred Walker catching four carp and some small fish for a winning 16lb 14oz. Barry weighed 15lb 14oz to take second place with Ray Lewis third with 13lb 4oz.

In Sunday’s contest Barry pole fished meat and bunches of dead maggots to catch 11 carp for a winning 39lb 12oz. Pete Ward came second with a 25lb 14oz catch with Ian Shirley finishing third with 20lb.

Hinckley tackle dealer Dominic Carino took the honours in Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match. Dom pole fished maggot to catch 38lb 6oz of carp

and small fish to qualify for next year’s Lychomania final. Craig Owen finished second with a 33lb 3oz catch. Terry Brindley was third with 27lb 14oz.

Higham Lane Fisheries Wednesday evening open was won by Jim Spradbury. With most of the carp still spawning weights were lower than expected. Jim’s 46lb 7oz catch was taken from the margins on pole fished pellet. Nobby Warner came second with 28lb 2oz while Dominic Carino finished third with 26lb 10oz.

The final match in Hinckley Angling Club’s Silver Fish series didn’t fish as well as expected. In form Rob Bream, who has framed in every match, tied for first place with Trevor Maydwell, both catching 7lb 13oz of small roach and bream. Mick Woodward netted a decent bream in the dying moments to finish

third with 4lb 11oz. Roger Benn included a 2lb tench in his fourth place catch weighing 4lb 8oz. The organisers would like to thank Sandy Maydwell for the refreshmen­ts and Trevor for his assistance throughout the series.

Maynes midweek open match was won by Pete Whitby who caught from the start, finishing with a 65lb 14oz net of carp on Pool Two. Other results; Pool One; 1st Jonathan Harvey 37lb 10oz, 2nd Phil Mansfield 21lb; Pool Two; 1st Pete Whitby, 2nd Matt Taylor 42lb. Pool Three; 1st Ian Stripp 30lb 8oz. 2nd Wayne Harris 19lb 6oz.

Higham Lane regulars the Varlys Vultures had an “away day” match at Parkers Fishery. Andy Findley took the honours with a 98lb catch of carp. Terry Sanderson came second with 86lb 7oz with Martin Ireland finishing third with a 72lb catch.

Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match resulted in Jamie Horler taking the honours. Jamie concentrat­ed on small fish, putting over 200 in his net before landing two carp from the margins to finish with a winning 24lb 12oz. Runner-up Ray Brunt finished just 6oz behind with a 24lb 6oz catch. Suzi Smith took third place with a 20lb 15oz catch.

June 16 sees the start of Shackersto­ne season, with the traditiona­l Teams of Four open match on Sunday June 19. Phone Andy Smith on 01530 263170 to enter a team.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches/Lychomania qualifiers

Brookfield have an open match every Sunday, draw 9am.

Shackersto­ne have a members evening contest every Tuesday through the summer. Draw on Station Bridge at 5.45pm.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Brookfield have an open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.

Measham have an open match series on the canal every Wednesday evening, draw 5.30pm at the Globe in Snarestone.
