Club is making a splash

HINCKLEY based Break Out Canoe Club won a club record 17 medals at the Orton Mere Canoe Slalom, Peterborou­gh, against some of the nation’s biggest squads.

In the Women’s Kayak category, 9-year-old Edie Leneham finished second, winning promotion to Division Three, with Lydia Fletcher scooping the Under-12 prize.

Nine-year-old Ethan Fletcher finished third in the Men’s Kayak category, missing out on promotion by one place. Ben Johnson and Jacob Hill finished first in the Under-14 and Under-10 categories, respective­ly.

In the C2 class Aaron Kirk and Danny Kelly paired up and won the Division Four competitio­n.

In the last race of the day, Isaac Mackley came fifth in the K1 category.

The second day bought more success for the club starting with Callum Massey, whose seventh place finish ensured he gained enough points for promotion to Division Two. Mackley finished in fifth place again to gain more points on his way to promotion from the same division.

Kerry Christie achieved a seasons best in her race, while Edie Leneham finished first in the Under-10s competitio­n.

In Division Four the club took a clean sweep of podium places, with Zara Montgomery finishing first and Molly Sandercock and Lydia Fletcher close behind her.

Fletcher managed to top his silver medal from the day before, finishing first in the Men’s K1 class, and gaining promotion to Division Three, whilst Josh Widdowson won the Under-14 event and Frank Griffin the Under-10 event.

Elliott Massey once again won the Division Three C1 class, with Aaron Kirk recording the fastest time of the day to beat teammate Jack Perchard into first place in the C2.
