Juniors join Tour de Hinckley time trial

-

MARK CAVENDISH may have grabbed everyone’s attention by winning the first stage of this year’s Tour de France but members of Hinckley Cycle Racing Club (HCRC) have been making waves of their own, writes Nicola Alexander.

Over the past few weeks there have been no fewer than seven personal bests and one course personal best achieved at the club’s Tuesday night time trials.

David Mead recorded an astonishing time of 20:38 and Eleanor Mather has consistently improved week on week to achieve a personal best of 28:11.

Meanwhile Michael John- son achieved 24:32, Stuart Hughes 26:22, Simon Haywood 26:28, Amy Bishop 26:42 and Simon Law recorded his course personal best of 23:08.

On Sunday June 19 HCRC held its annual Open 10 mile TT where a total of 95 riders had registered.

Despite a lack of marshalls leading up to the date, the event was blessed with good weather and team of much appreciated volunteer helpers on the day.

The fastest rider on the day was George Fox of Wellingborough Cycles RT who completed the course in 20:39.

Hinckley’s own David Mead came in a close second with a time of 20:53.

The fastest female rider was Jessica Kennedy riding for Derby Triathlon Club who recorded a time of 25:40 and the fastest lady riding for Hinckley CRC was Christine Johnson who achieved a very respectable 27:27.

There were also four juveniles riding the event who were also competing for the GHS District Championship.

Two of them were Amber Gibbs and Lucy Alexander riding their first 10 mile TT for HCRC.

Amber and Lucy both pushed themselves hard and ended up racing each other to the finish line achieving times of 41:25 and 38:25 respectively.

Hopefully it has given them both an appetite to compete in more events in the future.

The club is now looking forward to hosting its annual Open 25 mile TT on Sunday July 17.

Saturday afternoon kids Flyers sessions continue to attract younger riders who enjoy learning new skills on their bikes.

At the same time the Ladies Leisure rides are open to any women who fancy getting out on their bikes for a leisurely group ride around local country lanes.

The next Flyers session and ladies ride on Saturday July 9 will start at Argents Mead as the club is joining forces with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for its family fun day.
