Facebook response to our story was high

HINCKLEY’S Crescent held a showcase event to market its wares to the public - but what do residents think of the new £60 million development?

Contributors to our Facebook page have always been very vocal about what they’d like to see at the leisure and shopping complex.

And their comments on our coverage of the showcase event give a snapshot of public feeling.

Here’s what they had to say about The Crescent.

Michelle Stewart said: “I think the new Crescent is great, could be better but I think the council definitely need to think about putting in a crossing from the post office over to Rossini as it’s a busy junction and now with more people crossing from The Crescent up towards town it’s an accident waiting to happen.”

Clare Moore said: “Cinema, Sainsbury’s and new restaurants and bars all great additions to the town. But I think it’s a shame bowling wasn’t put in and also the lack of vari- ety in shops is a bit of a wasted opportunity in my opinion. Hinckley already has enough pound/discount shops.”

Jackie Jones said: “I think The Crescent has been good for the town and can only get better. People bemoan the discount shops but there’s plenty of people using them. Yes it would be nice to have more upmarket shops but it’s nice to be able to watch the world go by while enjoying a good coffee.”

Matthew Roberts said:

“I’m sorry, reality check needed. Every time I go up there it’s empty, the only people up there are the people walking through from the car park. It’s the free car park that has made the town a bit busier not The Crescent itself.”

Tom Phillips said: “I love that there’s more places to eat, it’s nice to have a good choice as it was limited before. However, those remaining units need to have at least a couple of big names in them to really make it a place worth visiting.”

Mark Mansfield said: “Wasted opportunity. Cinema is great, and the restaurants are nice, but I thought we were trying to get some decent shops! Hinckley doesn’t even have a decent sports shop.”

David Roberts said: “I think it’s rubbish, we didn’t need two gyms and loads of small food and drink places. The shops are small units and would suit small independent shops.”

Michael Green said: “It’s great to have a cinema back in the town and a choice of more places to eat but could do with more variety of shops.”

Stella Blewitt said: “Need more shops, too many food outlets. In fact it’s not got a lot to offer at all. Get the big names in.”

Jane Edwards said: “I think it has been a major improvement to the town - which was very depressed and dishevelled. However I do agree that another crossing needs to be put in - opposite George Street giving access to Regent Street. It is always difficult getting the right business into retail areas - only those who show an interest to rent units can be considered!”
