Dig in with festival of archaeology events
BUDDING archaeologists are being given the opportunity to dig in with a host of events around the borough to coincide with the national Festival of Archaeology 2016.
The initiative, led by the Council of British Archaeology, runs from Saturday July 16 to Sunday July 31.
Events to be held in Hinckley and Bosworth include guided walks, talks, displays and hands-on activities, many of which are free or cost less than £5 per person.
It is even possible to join a team from Hinckley Archaeological Society searching for a hidden section of the Roman Fosse Way.
Festival convenor and former Leicestershire county archaeologist Peter Liddle said: “There is something for all the family, from children’s craft events at museums around the county to serious lectures.
“We are particularly proud of the guided walks programme, giving people the chance to explore sites with a local expert who can explain its unique history.”
Events across Hinckley and Bosworth include:
King Richard’s reinterment exhbition at Bosworth Battlefield
Guided walks of Bosworth Battlefield and surroundings
Tour of St Peter’s Church and churchyard in Market Bosworth
