TRIBUTES have been paid to animal lover and charity stalwart Wynne Hutt who headed up a cat care and rehoming organisation for Hinckley and Nuneaton.

Wynne, who lived in Nuneaton, died on June 26. She was a well-known character on both sides of the A5 and was often seen driving around the Hinckley area in the Cat Action Trust ambulance.

Chairman of the trust, Wynne started off as a volunteer around 30 years ago, fitting it in with a fulltime job.

CAT was set up to deal with feral cats, neutering and vaccinating them so as not to encourage unwanted kittens or pose a health threat to domestic pets.

As the charity became better known however it also started getting unwanted domestic cats and kittens handed to volunteers and so operations spread to rescuing and rehoming pet felines, with foster carers across the Hinckley and Nuneaton area.

A spokesman for the charity said: “After her retirement Wynne worked relentlessly in numerous jobs, mainly trapping feral cats, having them neutered or spayed and returning to their natural habitat. This meant going out in all weathers, crawl- ing around and traps.

“Wynne also dealt with domestic cats and kittens who were badly treated, abandoned, or homeless. She spent most of her time at the vets getting urgent medical treatment for them. She was a wellknown person in the area driving around in the cat ambulance.

“We have all had cats from her which have been rescued. They have given us great happiness and pleasure. Whenever there setting was any spare cat food she would distribute the food to other charities and people who needed additional help.

“Wynne was a stubborn, feisty woman who may have ruffled a few feathers on the way in order for the cats to have a better life but we love her for this. Her good work will carry on with the legacy of these animals having new homes.”

The charity will continue its work with feral and domestic cats.
