Recognitio­n for drama talents

STUDENTS of Hinckley’s The Drama Academy celebrated a year of success with an awards evening in St Mary’s Church.

Performers aged from four to 20 presented pieces of musical theatre, dance and drama that had won awards or received high level examinatio­n marks during the previous 12 months.

It was also an opportunit­y to bid farewell to senior students going on to study at some of London’s top performing arts colleges in September.

Ben Packer and Jennifer Shires have been offered places at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Jay Albray at Guildford School of Acting, Billy Downes at Arts Educationa­l Schools and Alisha Veasey-Watts at London College of Music.

Academy principal Debbie Cunningham said: “We are thrilled to have so many students who have won coveted places at drama school this year and wish them every success for the future.”

Thirty-four awards were presented to students who had excelled during the year. Theatre dance awards were given to Phoebe Batham, Natasha Tapper, Jenny Smart, Evie Cunningham and Beckie Smart. Musical theatre awards were given to Mia Sowesby, Elissa Collins, Zoe Trotman, Kyle Johnson, Olivia Hine, Alex Day, Amie Shipley, Fraser Howes, Lucy Ryan, Phoebie Bakewell, Eleanor Hodgson and student of the year Alisha Veasey-Watts. Drama awards were given to Mia Clarke, Matthew Bluff, Megan Strong, Olivia Finch, Sarah Gent, Evie Marlow, David Knight, Leo Moss, Eleanor Reddan, Johnny Young, Maisie Wharton, Millie Hanson, Elizabeth Whitby, Jamie Forsythe, Tyler Thorp and students of the year Ben Packer and Allan Flower.

The Drama Academy, based at the Pathways Centre on Baptist Walk in the town, will be staging a summer showcase at the Abbey Theatre in Nuneaton on Saturday July 16 called Little Women - The Story In Songs. Visit www. the-drama-academy.co.uk or call Debbie Cunningham on 07852 163497.
