Reduced overs match leads to heaviest defeat of season

-

HINCKLEY Town Cricket Club suffered their heaviest defeat of the season so far on Saturday losing at Barkby by 207 runs after putting the home side into bat.

Due to the inclement weather the game did not start until 2.20pm being reduced to 40 overs for each side.

Barkby’s opening pair of Tom Flowers and Matt Boyce got off to a flying start and had scored 56 runs after eight overs.

Flowers reached his 50 off 47 balls in the 14th over, quickly followed by Boyce’s 50 off 44 balls.

At the drinks break after 20 overs, Barkby were an impressive 153 for no wickets. They lost their first wicket when Flowers was caught and bowled by Mo Pardesi for 94 with the score on 179 in the 23rd over.

With the loss of Boyce for 75 (caught Hunt, bowled Pardesi) with the score on 200-3 after 28 overs, Barkby lost a little bit of momentum and began to lose wickets at regular intervals.

However they still managed to reach 276-8 after 40 overs. The run chase was always going to be a tall task for Hinckley and so it proved as they were bowled out for 69 after 29.5 overs.

Ian Kirk taking three wickets for 24 runs and Will Fazakerley three for 11.

Hinckley only gained four points from this game leaving them third from the bottom of the premier league, only three points above second bottom Barrow.

With the next three games all against top teams, starting with top-of-the table Kibworth at home on Saturday, things are looking ominous.

Following that Hinckley’s first XI meet Loughborough on Saturday July 23 away, are at home to Sileby on July 30 and away at Earl Shilton on August 6.
