Debutante Simons is one bright spot as search for win goes on

-

STILL looking for their first win of the season, Earl Shilton welcomed Loughborough Town to Keats Lane.

The match was delayed by 30 minutes due to rain, before Earl Shilton won the toss and elected to bat first.

Both of their opening batsmen were out for just 26 with Shajeel Butt going for six and Kyle Chamberlain for 12.

Hass Ali and Liam Phillip managed to take the score to 52 before the latter was caught low down for 18, which proved to be the joint top score of the innings, with Ali reaching the same. A middle-order collapse saw just 19 runs added, meaning the innings closed with the score at 71 from just 31.3 overs.

Francis Robson was the pick of Loughborough’s bowlers getting four wickets.

Loughborough’s reply got off to the worst possible start, losing Barr for one after he was spectacularly caught by Josh Stock off Phil Crouch.

His replacement, Lowen, went with the addition of just one run caught by Crouch off the bowling of debutante Ellis Simons.

Despite the strong start, Earl Shilton were unable to take any more wickets and Loughborough reached the total in 16.4 overs with opener Patel on 33 and Patel on 32.

A positive to take from the match for Earl Shilton was the performance of debutante Ellis Shilton who only lost 19 runs for seven overs and got one wicket as well.
