Crossings should be a priority for Crescent

-

I AM writing with regards to pedestrians who have to cross a very busy road without a proper zebra crossing. The area in question is the corner of Lancaster Road and Station Road in Hinckley.

This is one of several in the area that have been developed around the Crescent shopping centre and zebra crossings should have been installed in time with the opening of the Crescent.

Drop down curbs are in place but motorists fail to stop and pedestrians are totally confused about where to cross. I have witnessed on occasions pedestrians and motorists battling it out as to who has right of way and I’m sure it won’t be long before someone is seriously hurt.

These areas in question definitely need a zebra crossing or similar as soon as possible.

I have emailed Leicestershire County Council and I believe others may have done so as well. It has also been a topic of conversation online with Streetlife.

The highways department are also aware of the lack of proper pedestrian crossings in this area but why does it take so long for them to respond to something that is clearly a very urgent issue.

Are they waiting for someone to be injured in these areas before they act on it? Zebra crossings are needed now, not when the council decides to put it on one of their agendas for consultation.
