Young eco warriors get funding to carry on

-

ECO warriors from Hinckley have been given £250 to help fund environment friendly initiatives at their school.

Pupils from Richmond Primary School attended an Eco Day at Neovia Logistics in Desford where they put up a display and gave a short presentation to explain the eco work they have been involved in.

Projects at the Stoke Road site have included litter picking, developing a wildlife pond and recycling unwanted clothes by selling them for fundraising.

Children from Battling Brook and Sheepy Magna primary schools also attended.

Each child was given a certificate and goody bag plus the school received a plaque in recognition of their endeavours, as well as a cheque for the project money and a sponsored endangered animal pack.

After sharing what they are doing to help the planet, the youngsters were treated to tales from Dave Shaw whose Rainforest Roadshow came compete with artefacts and living creatures.

The children also learned about work to protect endangered species discovered at Neovia’s own site in Desford, which was found to be home to great crested newts and grass snakes, both protected species.

Bee orchids had also been found on site and relocated for conservation purposes.

Global industrial contract logistics company Neovia has excellent eco friendly credentias as, since 2010, it has recycled 100% of all waste produced on site, with no material going to landfill.

The eco awards were sponsored by Electract, Ideal Group, Smith and Johnson, DHL and Sodexo.
