Creative young people can put on a show
TEENS and children are being given a chance to show their creative skills at a community show in Desford.
The second annual Desford Community Produce Show, hosted by Desford Allotment Garden Association, will be held in Desford Church Centre on Main Street on Sunday September 4.
As well as dozens of traditional vegetable, flower and home craft classes, there will be special categories for young growers, up to Year 6, and for young adults, aged up to 18.
Children’s classes include an edible pizza face, fruit and vegetable necklace and tallest sunflower.
Young adults classes include five decorated cup cakes and a short digital movie to include fruit and/or vegetables.
There is also a baking section just for men and boys, with the challenge of producing a lemon drizzle cake to a specified recipe.
And photography classes are being brought bang up to date with one category for a digital sketch, drawing or painting created using any electronic media software.
More traditional classes include the largest pumpkin and heaviest potato, a pair of leeks and six pods of peas.
There are floral classes plus home baking, preserves and wine making categories.
Entries cost £2 for adults, with no charge students and under 18-year-olds .
After judging, the show will open to the public from 1pm and trophies will be presented from 4.30pm.
