Singh and Pardesi on fire in derby clash

-

HINCKLEY Town thrashed local rivals Earl Shilton Town by six wickets at the weekend to give their survival hopes a major boost.

Home side Earl Shilton finished on a miserable 111 in the 29th over, which Hinckley managed to trump with 113 for four in the 22nd over.

The must-win game for both sides leaves Hinckley just six points from safety, while Earl Shilton sit at the bottom of the table with a 92 point deficit.

Next week Hinckley travel to Leicester Ivanhoe hoping to leapfrog the side out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile Earl Shilton play Market Harborough.

On Saturday, Earl Shilton won the toss and chose to bat first.

They were immediately on the back foot, however, as their regular openers were held up in traffic on the M1.

Josh Stock and James Lester opened instead, and Stock was bowled in the sixth over by Suki Singh with the score on 19.

Brilliant bowling by Singh and Billal Pardesi pegged the hosts back to 42 for six, with Lester scoring 20.

Earl Shilton made a slight recovery thanks to the returning Husnain Shah with 39.

New boy Pavan Singh, who was drafted into the side just hours before kick-off from the second team, only scored seven, but did well to remain in the crease for longer than any other Earl Shilton player.

The hosts were bowled out for 111 in the 29th over, with Singh and Pardesi getting four wickets each.

In return, Hinckley started poorly and lost captain Craig Crowe with the first ball of the innings.

However Michael Burgess restored confidence with 48, before being caught by Shah to take the score onto 58 for two in the 12th over.

Aleem Mahood was bowled by Shajeel Butt for 18 and Ben Coddington reached 15 to move Hinckley onto 83 for four in the 22nd over.

The visitors reached their target with Pinto Patel scoring 22 not out and Will Hunt eight not out.

Hinckley gained a vital 25
