Body of man found outside church in Earl Shilton
Police say death is not being treated as suspicious
A BODY has been found in a graveyard at a church in Earl Shilton.
The discovery was made on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to Church Street at just after 3pm after the alarm was raised that a man had been found dead.
The body was discovered at the rear of Saint Simon and Saint Jude Church by a member of the public.
Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Ward councillor Janice Richards (Con) said: “On Saturday I heard there were loads of police cars on Church Street.
“People said a body was wheeled out on a trolley and covered with a white sheet.
“Nobody knows what happened, but my thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very difficult time.”
Detectives sealed off the churchyard and a nearby alleyway while they carried out their investigations.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called to Church Street in Earl Shilton just after 3pm on Saturday after a man was found deceased.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
“Identification of the deceased will be a matter for the coroner.”
Loughborough Coroner’s Court confirmed it is in the process of carrying out a post-mortem examination.
