-

THE SKILLS and talents of teenagers learning trades on day release at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College have been recognised in an end of term award ceremony.

Recognition was given to students who are part of the Career Step programme which offers opportunities to undertake vocational training in spheres such as hair and beauty, engineering and motor vehicle care.

Awards also went to those on the Inspire programme which provides full-time support and education to young people who have been excluded or may be at risk of exclusion,

The schemes are open to 14 to 16-year-olds from the Hinckley and Nuneaton area.

This year 27 students from nine schools received awards across many categories. Lisa Capper, executive director schools for North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and the Midlands Academies Trust, said: “The event was a fantastic celebration of Career Step and Inspire students’ successes during 2015/16. During the evening we also enjoyed a musical interlude performed by Chelsea Tring, a Level 3 performing arts student and a poem was beautifully read by Lily Richardson, a Year 10 Inspire student.

“The event was extremely well attended by parents, carers and friends, all in support of the awardwinning students.

“It was a great honour to celebrate the achievements of our students and we will look forward to the new academic year with ambition for what great things can be achieved by our young students.”
