Superhero scoops prize at village fun day

BENJAMIN Bunny rubbed shoulders with Captain America at Barlestone Fun Day.

The event, held at Bosworth Road Sports Ground, offered family fun and games for all, with a tug of war tournament, circus skills area, children’s assault course, stalls, stands and sideshows.

A fancy dress competitio­n was held on the theme of book characters.

Winners were brothers four-year-old Alexander Galbraith as Benjamin Bunny and six-year-old Zack Galbraith as Peter Rabbit.

Prizes also went to threeyear-old Grace Coats as Goldilocks, seven-year-old Josh Haycock as a ghost pirate and four-year-old Josh Bray as Captain America.

The sun shone and event organiser Cathie Watkins, who staged the day with the help of a team of volunteers, said: “A great time was had by all who came along.”

Good causes represente­d included Menphys, Community First Responders, First Steps playgroup, Market Bosworth Young Farmers Club and the Women’s Institute.

Music came from the village ukulele band and Newbold Verdon vocalist Kate Field.

Fundraisin­g runners from Hinckley based G Seller & Co funderal directors included the event in their challenge to run 2016 miles during 2016 to raise money for Dorothy Goodman School in Hinckley.

A chill-out zone was offered at St Giles Church for anyone in need of a rest from all the excitement.

Money raised fromt the sale of refreshmen­ts and tombola will be shared between good causes chosen by the event committee.

Barlestone’s Bangla Kitchen restaurant, which sponsored event advertisin­g, will also be donating a share of profits from a charity dinner held after the fun day to the event committee’s chosen causes.
