Top award for council jobs scheme
BLABY District Council received an employment award at the Leicestershire Apprentice Hub.
The council was awarded Large Employer of the Year for the successful integration of apprentices within the organisation.
Judged by Leicester City Council, Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership and various partner colleges across Leicestershire, the award recognises the council’s achievement in recruiting, supporting, training and promoting the use of apprentices within the organisation.
Councillor Terry Richardson, leader of Blably District Council, said: “This award emphasises our commitment to help develop and grow young people in the country through apprenticeships.
“Their experiences will ensure they are outstanding individuals in the future, either for our benefit, or for the benefit of local businesses.”
The council currently has six apprentices working across the organisation, including finance, neighbourhood services and communication teams, with a seventh starting in the coming weeks.
Mark Foote, strategic manager for people, performance and assets, said: “The hard work and achievements that we have seen from our apprentices have encouraged us to recruit more.”
“We’re extremely proud of all of them, and the way they have integrated into the council. This award recognises their success.”
The Apprenticeship Hub, funded by Leicester City Council, gives the opportunity for local people aged 16 to 24 to access apprenticeships.
