Band with a winning formula

-

INDIE rockers We Are Scientists are going from California to Coventry to hit up the Kasbah for a one-night special gig.

The iconic two-piece - behind noughties chart toppers such as The Great Escape - will be bringing their electric stage presence to the Hillfields-based Kasbah on Saturday September 3, as part of the UK leg of their latest international tour.

The New York City-based indie rock band, who formed in Berkeley, California in 2000, saw breakthrough success with their first studio album, With Love And Squalor, which sold more than 100,000 copies in the first six months. The duo’s second album, Brain Thrust Mastery, reached number 11 in the UK album chart and since then they have gone on to release three more albums.

The band, who cite diverse acts such as My Bloody Valentine, David Bowie, Hall & Oates and Fleetwood Mac among influences, are set to play at cities including

Sheffield, Oxford and Gloucester in the next year – with Coventry one of only two West Midlands dates.

As well as touring various cities across the UK, the band played Handmade Festival in Leicester and Live at Leeds festival and released their fifth studio album, Helter Seltzer, in April, which features recently released pop-rock tracks Buckle and Too Late.

Amajit Kullar, of the Kasbah, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing the band to the Kasbah for the band’s only Coventry performance.

“The band’s latest output, Helter Seltzer, was released only a few months ago so we’re sure fans will love to see some of their newest music, as well as a mixture of their older classics, performed live – they always give an enthusiastic and lively performance.

“We are expecting a real buzz at this performance, as students will be arriving in the city in their thousands for the new academic year so encourage partygoers to get their tickets early to avoid disappointment.”

Tickets are £6. Doors open at 9pm and tickets can be bought at www.kasbahnightclub.com
