Quick one-two from racer at Anglesey round

-

EARL Shilton racer Alan Palmer maintained his lead in the 2016 Smart 4 Two Cup with a first and second place finish at Anglesey Circuit.

In an eventful first race, Alan Palmer pulled off an audacious move underbreaking into the tight Rocket Complex on lap one to take the lead.

James Palmer and David Nash were battling it out for the second spot until Nash lost his back end forcing James to drive onto the grass to avoid a collision. This allowed Greg Owen to move into second and challenge Alan.

It looked at one point as though Owen’s might have stolen first place, however a mistimed takeover led to him clipping Alan’s car, sending his own car into a spin and causing irreparable damage meaning his race was over.

Alan emerged from the collision unscathed, and extended his lead to several seconds. Although the gap closed slightly in the final few laps, Alan managed to hold on to take his third victory of the season.

In race two James managed to get past Alan in the first corner.

Alan fought hard to find a way back in lap two, but poor breaking allowed David Nash to slip through into second.

On lap six Alan got a great run onto the straight and with the help of the slipstream managed to get back passed Nash by the end of the straight. Alan attempted to overtake James, and despite posting the fastest lap of the race, was unable too, meaning he had to settle for second.

Alan Palmer holds onto the series lead, with James in seconds going into the penultimate race meeting at Croft on the weekend on September 10 and 11.
