DISGRUNTLED residents are complaining about a lack of pedestrian crossings near Hinckley’s Crescent development.

Some people say crossing Lancaster Road and Station Road to reach the £60 million retail and leisure complex is dangerous and it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

In a letter sent to the Hinckley Times, Norman Green said: “Pedestrians have to cross a very busy road without a proper zebra crossing - and it won’t be long before someone is seriously hurt.

“Drop down curbs are in place but motorists fail to stop and pedestrians are totally confused about where to cross.

“I have witnessed on occasions pedestrians and motorists battling it out as to who has right of way.

“This is one of several in the area that have been developed around The Crescent shopping centre and zebra crossings should have been installed in time with the opening of The Crescent.”

Roger Cramer, from Hinckley, added: “There is no pedestrian access anywhere near The Crescent.

“Why in god’s name did nobody think of installing something so simple when The Crescent was being built?

“It is very dangerous and some- thing needs to be done.”

Other residents took to social media to vent their frustrations.

Leicestershire County Council said there are plans for further improvement works in the area, including a pedestrian crossing.

But the highways authority said it currently does not have the funding to carry out the works.

A council spokesman said: “There are plans for further improvement work in this area including a pedestrian crossing, however we do not currently have the funding available to carry it out.

“We have bid for funding from the single local growth fund to deliver the work and expect to find out if we have been successful following the Government’s Autumn Statement.”
