Green light for first phases of new estate

-

THE FIRST phases of a planned 850-home estate on land next to the Triumph factory in Hinckley has been given the green light.

A full application for the development of 260 houses was approved by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s planning committee.

It follows the thumbs-up for an outline bid of the whole scheme last month. The decision was subject to the signing of a Section 106 agreement which will see developer Bloor Homes pay more than £3.7 million to support highways, education, healthcare, libraries, policing and town centre improvements.

The application forms the first two phases of the Normandy Fields development by Bloor Homes, the construction company owned by Triumph Motorcycles magnate John Bloor.

Phases one and two of the scheme will deliver 260 homes, public open space with a children’s play area, landscaping and a new access road to serve the whole development.

The accommodation will be made up of a mix of one-bedroom flats and houses and two, three and four-bedroom houses. Fifty two of the properties will be provided as affordable housing.

Jason Woolliscroft, regional managing director for Bloor Homes Midlands, said: “We are naturally pleased that planning permission has been granted for the first two phases of the development and we look forward to signing the Section 106 agreement in due course.

“Prior to submitting this full planning application, we conducted an assessment of the local housing market to ensure that the mix of homes we are building will meet the needs of local people and we are confident the development will prove to be a welcome addition to the area.”

Access to the development will be via a new three-arm roundabout junction from Normandy Way, between the existing roundabout junctions with Roston Drive and Wykin Road.

A toucan crossing will be installed just south of the new roundabout, the footpath and cycleway between Wykin Road and Roston Drive will be widened and improvements will also be made to the Outland Drive junction with Normandy Way to allow vehicles to turn more easily into Normandy Way.

The full development at Normandy Fields will also include a new primary school and retail units on a 44 hectare site to the west of the A47 Normandy Way.
