Flypast by top bomber
THE LANCASTER Bomber is set to dazzle guests with a celebratory flypast at Bruntingthorpe Airfield this weekend.
The airfield, near Lutterworth, is hosting a Cold War jets open day this Sunday from 9am.
Guests have the chance to watch high-speed taxi runs and enjoy cockpit tours of vintage planes which played a crucial role in keeping the peace during the Cold War.
A special flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster Bomber will also take place.
Organiser Dave Walton said: “This is a great opportunity for the public to see what a totally unique event this is and to witness these spectacular aircraft being put through their paces and producing some amazing performances.
“Visitors will have the chance to experience, and in some cases relive, the unique, and spectacular, sights and sounds of our collection of aircraft, all of which have long retired from active service, but which helped to keep us all safe during the dangerous years of the Cold War – the war that thankfully was never fought.”
The event will include performances from the venerable Vickers VC10, the Handley-Page Victor and English Electric Lightning.
Admission costs £20 for adults, £16 for senior citizens or disabled people and under-16s go free.
