No pride these days as rubbish is left everywhere

-

WE HAVE become a nation that has no pride when it comes to litter.

Often people will throw a variety of packaging on the floor, even food is not unusual, when litter bins are close by.

How often do we pass through an area of recreation such as parks after a beautiful day to see empty bottles, beer cans and all sorts of rubbish strewn over the grass.

As if this situation is not bad enough we have now become a nation that disposes unwanted items outside our property for ‘someone’ to collect and take away.

All kinds of unwanted items are just dumped on front gardens, grass verges and even footpaths in the hope that it will be magically disposed of.

Refrigerators, washing machines, lawnmowers, TVs and even things like toys, furniture and boxes full of rubbish.

This is done without any care for the environment in which we live or the thoughts of neighbours.

The ‘scrap man’ is not interested in everything dumped in the street. This selfish practice does nothing more than bring down the tone of the neighbourhood.

If such items are found dumped in laybys, fields and country lanes it is considered as fly tipping for which the local authority has powers to prosecute if evidence leads to the culprit being found. So why not the same approach when it happens on our door step? John Smith
