Famous toy pony helps raise funds

-

ATHERSTONE and District Riding Club raised more than £1,500 for the charity of a teenager who died from bone cancer.

More than 70 riders attended the event in Upton in support of Willberry Wonder Pony Charity, set up by Hannah Francis who died last month after suffering from osteosarcoma. The charity now has more than 47,000 followers on Instagram alone.

Willberry is a small toy pony, which is the mascot of the charity. The pony is now recognised throughout the eventing world, with the world’s best athletes carrying it during their rides.

On the day the riders were split into six different classes to complete in a jumping event, with all making it home safely. The winners of each class received a rosette, sash and prizes from their sponsors.

As well as the competition the riders bought cakes, had a go on the wine or water tombola, guess how many sweets were in the jar and, of course, got a selfie with Willberry.

The club in now also selling raffle tickets for the charity with a range of prizes including a pet portrait, riding lessons, sports massages, goody boxes and gift vouchers.

Tickets are £2 each and can be bought from the committee, details of which can be found on www.atherstoneanddistrictridingclub.co.uk

The raffle will be drawn at the next club show on Sunday August 28. All are welcome to go along to their Upton base.
