Charities urged to stake claim

Nominations for £1,000 still open

-

ENTRIES continue to arrive at The Hinckley Times office for our £1,000 giveaway to a good cause in the area.

Deserving charities are being given the chance to grab the cash thanks to Vodafone and The Hinckley Times.

The giveaway is part of the technology firm’s Community Connection Awards scheme.

The winning charity could be anything from a soup kitchen which needs money for a new oven or a scout group in need of new uniforms.

One submission comes from The Pathways Centre in Hinckley.

They want to use the £1,000 for a project called Blessing Bags.

This is a small bag filled toiletry items like toothpaste, deodorant, soap, socks, underwear and a bar of chocolate.

These are then distributed to people living on the streets as well as Lawrence House, foodbanks and the women’s refuge.

Meanwhile Sapcote Community Library would use the money to upgrade their heating system and toilet facilities, both of which are inadequate.

Brian Clarke, Vodafone store manager in Hinckley, said: “We’re delighted to team up with The Hinckley Times to offer a Vodafone Community Connection Award in Hinckley.

“We’re keen to play our part as members of the local community and we know there are some really deserving causes out there, working hard to make a difference – we hope they will put themselves forward.”

We are inviting readers of The Hinckley Times to nominate a charity - charities can also nominate themselves. The lucky winner will then be selected by the newspaper and staff at Vodafone in Hinckley.

The winning cause needs to meet the following criteria:

It should be a local charity that makes a significant impact on the local community

It cannot be a personal or individual plight, nor a government funded organisation

The award must also be for a specific project or purpose, rather than just to cover operating costs

The award must be stand-alone rather than form any part of a larger contribution or bigger appeal

Nominees must have a registered charity number

Nominees must be based in The Hinckley Times’ circulation area

To enter, please write to us explaining why you, or your nominated group, deserves £1,000. Please keep the words to a maximum of 250.
