-

WILLIAM Bradford Academy has ended its long history as a stand-alone school with best ever A-level results.

The swansong for the academy before it reopens as Heath Lane in a merger with nearby Heathfield, saw a 100% pass rate in A levels and BTECs, a 99% pass rate in AS levels and more than half of pupils - 62% - securing A* to B grades.

Emma Merry, principal of the school which is under the umbrella of The Midlands Academies Trust, said: “Here at the William Bradford Academy we focus on equipping students, not just with qualifications for today but also with the transferable skills and confidence for their future careers.

“We are exceptionally proud of our students who have worked relentlessly to secure the best grades ever. These are exciting times as we move forward to become Heath Lane Academy in September and the results really demonstrate what talent we have within the local community, the academy and The Midland Academies Trust. We really are securing successful futures for our students. I expect to see some of these faces again in the future, perhaps even changing the world.”

Among those who were celebrating outstanding results was Adam Whale who gained two A* in biology and maths and an A in chemistry.

Adam said: “I’m really pleased, my results are better than I expected. Thank you to the staff for their hard work and support over the last few years.”

The 18-year-old will be going on to study a degree in chemistry at the University of Bristol.

Jack Higginson was delighted to attain an A* in maths, A in biology and B in physics, saying: “I’m really pleased with my grades and looking forward to starting university in September. I couldn’t have got here without the support of the teachers.”

Jack will be starting a degree in physics this September at the University of Leicester.

Brydie Teggart celebrated a Distinction* in her art BTEC and aims to study a foundation art course at De Mont- fort University.

She said: “I’m really excited and looking forward to seeing where my art course can take me. Thank you to all of my teachers, the school has become a home from home over the last few years.”

Results in Year 12 were equally positive, with pass rates increasing to 99% for AS level and 42% of students securing grades A to B.

From August 24 the William Bradford Academy and Heathfield Academy will merge to create the new Heath Lane Academy, providing all-through education for students aged 11 to 18.

The William Bradford Academy is sponsored by North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and South Leicestershire College.
