HUNDREDS gathered to watch history brought to life at the annual Battle of Bosworth re-enactment.

Over two days the last clash in the War of the Roses was replayed, with the story of Richard III and his defeat to Henry Tudor recreated in glorious detail.

The sounds of musket fire and sword on shield filled the air as experts from the War of the Roses Federation took to the field at the Battle of Bosworth Heritage Centre.

Both the Battle of Bos- worth, which saw the death both of King Richard III and with him the Plantagenet dynasty, and the earlier Battle of Tewkesbury were played out in the main arena.

A minute’s silence commemorating all who lost their lives during the conflict and a poignant roselaying ceremony also featured on both days as a reminder of cost to the pain suffered on that fateful day in 1485.

Elsewhere at the centre visitors enjoyed demonstrations in the living history camps, a thrilling jousting competition, archery, birds of prey dis- play, a 15th century fashion show and the chance to learn the steps of a medieval dance.

Guided walks and expert talks were available for those seeking to broaden their knowledge while stalls featured crafts and goods with a historical twist.

Plenty of food and drink options, including locally sourced delicacies kept visitors going throughout the day.

A special commemorative ceremony on the actual day of the battle, August 22, took place on Monday with rose-laying and a service of remembrance.
