WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade

-

IT’S been around 20 years since Alex England last fished a match on the Ashby Canal, but it’s certain he wont wait as long for his next visit after he won Sunday’s Shackerstone open match fished on the Monthills.

Sticking it out for a big fish was Alex’s plan, which worked when he landed a single 4lb 8oz tench caught on pole fished worm. This was enough to give him victory.

Runner-up Doug Dimbleby worked hard to catch 3lb 14oz of small bream while Maurice Smith caught a mixture of small fish to take third place with 3lb 3oz.

Match fishing legend Andy Findley scored a convincing win in Higham Lane’s Thursday open match. Andy used pellet feeder tactics to land a superb 106lb 11oz winning catch to finish over 50lb clear of runner-up Ricky Arms who weighed 54lb 6oz. Tony Cuppleditch came third with a 52lb catch.

There was a peg to peg battle for the honours in Tuesday’s Mill on the Soar open match. At the end Alby Beehl weighed 35lb 6oz from peg 7 to win with Pete White on peg 6 finishing second with a 33lb 6oz catch. Mick Linnett took third place with a 26lb 4oz catch.

Dave Jackson qualified for the Lychomania final after winning Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match. Dave pole fished paste and corn baits and landed most of the fish he hooked, to win with a 44lb 12oz catch. Runner-up Suzie Smith used pellet feeder tactics to catch 36lb 14oz. Paul Bates and Liam Yeomans tied for third place both weighing 29lb 10oz.

Jonathan Harvey’s good form continued at Maynes Lakes when he won Wednesday’s open match. Fishing on Pool One Jonathan caught fish from the margins to finish with a level 80lb. Top catch on Pool Two came from Alan Wilson who weighed 61lb. Darryl Moore topped Pool Three with a 45lb catch.

The second round of the Pete Hogg memorial league was fished along the Woodside length on Shackerstone’s waters. Roger Pickering made no mistake after drawing the golden peg, winning with a 2lb 6oz catch of small fish. Alan Dixon finished second with 1lb 8oz. Andy Morton and Bob Styles shared third place both weighed 1lb 4oz.

Alan Grewcock won the latest Summer League contest at Higham Lane Fishery. Fishing the pole produced a winning 86lb 5oz catch. Rich Wells came second with 74lb 11oz while a late change from the feeder to pole fishing the margin almost produce another win for Andy Findley, who landed more than 60lb of fish in the last two hours, but ran out of time and had to settle for third place with 68lb 11oz.

Mick Hacett won Sunday’s Brookfield open match with the best catch taken for several years. Mick caught carp all day from the shallow water along the far bank to finish well clear with a 73lb 12oz carp catch. Ray Lewis finished second with 20lb 8oz with Stu Campton taking third place with 11lb 8oz.
