ORGANISERS of a popular annual horticultural show are seeking generous benefactors to boost sponsorship levels for this year’s event on Saturday.

Volunteers putting on the Stoke Golding Garden Show hope to receive backing, financial or otherwise to help keep the tradition going.

This will be the 86th year the garden show society has put on the competition which attracts growers and makers from far and wide.

A spokesman said: “It’s that time of year again. The committee and friends of Stoke Golding Garden Show are currently raising sponsorship money and trying very hard to persuade individuals, organisations and businesses in Hinckley and Bosworth and the surrounding areas to help us to be able to keep this wonderful annual event running.

“Without people’s generosity we would struggle to achieve the high standards that are now expected every year. If anyone would like to contribute towards the show financially, or in any other way – every little kindness helps us to reach our targets.”

This year profits from the show will be split between hospice charity Loros and towards the new defibrillator which is planned for installa- tion at the surgery in Stoke Golding.

The show is open to everyone of all ages and abilities with sections to test skills in vegetable growing, flower growing, floral art, children’s creative artwork and decorating, jam making, cake baking and decorating among others.

There is also a class whereby a novice - someone who has not won a prize in the class before - can enter in a separate category and be judged purely against other novices, helping level up the playing field for beginners.

This year novices are invited to enter a ‘Three Beetroot’ class. There is also a new ‘Pickled Vegetable’ class on offer.

Following the judging at 6pm the show, at Stoke Golding Club on Hinckley Road, is open to the public to peruse the class entries, view the trophies, congratulate the prize winners and eye up some of the selection for later purchase in the grand auction. A raffle is also open for visitors.

Free schedules are available this month from Stoke Golding village pubs, the post office, Stoke Golding Club and local shops.

People can enter classes on the day between 11am and 2pm with a fee of 25p per entry.

Anyone who can help support the show should contact Phil on 07963 987982 or Tina on 07809 629690.
