Outdoor games are on offer in Burbage
FUN in the sun is promised thanks to a community initiative in Burbage.
A free summer toy library has opened in Burbage thanks to Freestyle Burbage and Eden Gardening of Hinckley.
A donation from the family run horticulture firm has enabled organisers of Freestyle Burbage to buy a cupboard full of toys and games including tennis racquets, a cricket set, golf, baseball and badminton sets.
Freestyle Burbage is a crowdsourced and crowdfunded project which was set up in 2014 to encourage local people to organise and take part in community events and activities in Burbage. It relies solely on public donations and practical support from local people and businesses.
Mike George, of Freestyle Burbage, said: “After the success of the neighbourhood book exchange we wanted to add a toy library for children. Thanks to the donation from Eden Gardening we have been able to buy a cupboard full of toys and games including tennis racquets, a cricket set, golf, baseball and badminton sets, and Burbage Parish Council has provided table tennis bats and balls. It is very popular and is helping parents and grandparents find activities for children during the holiday.
“Freestyle Burbage has continued to grow this year and we are already planning an exciting range of events for next year, on the theme of Summer of Love 50 to mark the 50th anniversary of the original ‘Summer of Love’ in 1967.”
It is free to borrow any of the games from the toy library, which will be open every day until the end of September outside 8 Featherston Drive.
