Primark store opens its doors at Fosse Park

Shoppers queued for an hour to get inside on first day

EAGER customers queued for an hour to be the first ones into the new Primark store at Leicester’s Fosse Park.

Shoppers were welcomed into the shop under a human archway of blue uniform-clad staff members.

They handed out balloons as hundreds of customers flooded through the doors when they were flung wide last Thursday.

It has opened in the former BHS unit at the shopping centre.

Jo Barsby, 63, was one of the first in the queue, after arriving at 8.50am.

She said: “It is great having the car park close, so you can load all your stuff in.

“I like Primark because of the low prices.

“I have come to see what they have on offer.”

The new store has two floors of fashion and takes up more than 60,000 square feet of retails space.

This new addition to the Primark family brings the number of stores in the UK to 171.

Terri Sango, 34, of Thorpe Astley, had queued since 8.45am.

She said: “We thought we would come and find some bargains. It will be really handy because we live in the surroundin­g area.

“Primark makes Fosse Park a lot more affordable, with Primark there is more choice and wider price range.”

Sarah Jones, 46, an account manager, from Braunstone Town, was shopping in Primark with her friend shortly after it opened.

She said: “It is tidier, and it feels bigger and more spacious.

“I hope it stays like that. I think it is a nicer experience here.

“The friendly.

“I think it will bring lots more people down here.”

A Primark staff are really spokes- woman said: “We are delighted to open a new store at Fosse Park, the second Primark store in Leicester.

“This is an important opening for Primark and we look forward to expending our footprint and bringing the Primark brand to more customers.”

The opening of Primark marks the completion of the first phase of works in a multi-million pound investment programme by Fosse Park to improve the shopping experience for visitors.

It will have additional retail units, new store frontages, and improvemen­ts to landscapin­g and parking.

Adrian Young, centre manager at Fosse Park, said: “It’s really exciting time at Fosse Park, with a host of new stores opening and a fantastic ‘make- over’ all ready for Christmas.

“I’m sure the 10 million shoppers that visit each year will be delighted with the new additions, as they get ready for the festive season.

“We’re also looking forward to a decision from Blaby council regarding the plans which we’re jointly supporting alongside Everards Brewery and Next for the regenerati­on of the former brewery site at Castle Acres.”

The shoppingng centre was built in two phases, with Fosse North completed in 1989, and Fosse South built in 1997.

Today it attracts about 10 million shoppers a year who stay for an average of 93 minutes at the park and spend an average of £88.37 each.

It is let to more than 30 stores and restaurant­s.
